On Monday January 21st, 2008 the Little Devils held our annual Little Devil of the Year awards banquet for football and cheerleading, designed to honor outstanding athletes/students at the high school level that were at one time Little Devils football players and cheerleaders.
The banquet, honored Emily Watkins from Bellville West for Cheerleading, Sean Lewis of Belleville West Football, and Mike Shadwick from Althoff Football. Belleville East did not have any qualifying students this year and Althoff did not have a cheerleader that qualified.
Little Devils president Joe See presented the awards after a small speech about each recipient.
Emily’s father Dennis Watkins spoke about her journey through the Devils into high school, crediting Angel VonBokel for turning Emily and her sister into cheerleaders.
Coach Ric Johns spoke about Sean Lewis as did his mother, describing the first time he came home with a Little Devils flyer and asked to play football.
Coach Glenn Schott in what is likely his last Little Devil of the Year banquet, spoke for Mike Shadwick describing Mike’s imporatance on and off the field. Mike’s mother Pam Shadwick also spoke about Mike’s time with the Devils.
The Little Devils of the Year for wrestling was honored at the 2008 wrestling banquet on Saturday March 29th, 2008.
