The Little Devils as most of you know is an ALL VOLUNTEER organization. There are NO PAID EMPLOYEES of the Little Devils. Therefore; when you see someone working on the field, picking up trash, or working in the concession stand they are all giving up their time for the organization that we are all members of. Not to mention all of the maintenance, plumbing, electrical, painting etc. We often ask for help, usually just for a chain gang, concession stand, or to clean up after the game. The things we ask aren’t because we are looking for cheap help, we are ALL FREE help, nor is it because we are lazy. We ask for help because that is the ONLY way that the Little Devils can keep operating. We often hear, “I would rather just write you a check?” Money is great and needed, but we need bodies. When other teams come to play at OUR HOME, we want them to go back thinking how great of hosts we are. How nice the field is, how good the food is, how friendly and supportive the members of the Little Devils are. This club has been a staple in the Belleville community for over 50 years. It is something to be proud of.
We understand that we live in a much different world then we did 15 or 20 years ago. People are much more busy, and don’t have the time. We aren’t asking that you come up when you aren’t there anyway, but when you are there, during practice, the hour before your game that you are required to show up. We also wouldn’t ask you to help during your child’s game other then to work a chain gang. You do not have to know what you are doing the refs will help you figure it out, it isn’t difficult. The bad side of working the chains is that you cannot cheer, coach, complain… you are a neutral part of the officiating staff. The good thing is, it is the best seat in the house, you are always right next to the action. If we do not get help from parents and fans, the few people who are working in the concessions stand either miss their child’s game, as happened in week one, or close the stand for their game, which nobody wants.
If most of us give just a little time we wouldn’t have to rely on the same people over and over. This might keep those few good helpers from burning out and it all going downhill. Let’s all take pride in being Little Devils and show the rest of Tri-County what they are missing by playing for someone else.
So when they ask over the intercom or someone walks up to you and asks for a little help, please give a little time to keep it all going. And remember that you aren’t helping us, you are helping your own child and all of their teammates.
Thank you all for your continued support and for choosing Little Devils to help mold your children into well balanced productive citizens.
